3d modeling to get the pose is better than AI. AI cannot replicate great composition. It is kind of a one trick pony. If you use AI as your reference, your artwork will always be mid. AI is flashy to those who don’t understand the craft. Now it is to find compositions.
In the Free program Pose My Art, we take model meshes and get the composition that we want. Art is sixty percent composition and forty percent skill. So when you paint from a photo reference the artist is only at forty percent. When you find your own composition through the lens and then paint it, you get closer to being a hundred percent.
I know those numbers are subjective but painting from another reference takes away from authorship of the painting. Go find your own references. Find a model, take a picture and paint something new.
